Welcome to Birmingham, UK!
VeXpo 2025 marks my first appearance abroad, going as far as to leaving the European Union. Customs were a pain, one of the lads I met on the flight had to explain to them what a vtuber is. So, then what is a vtuber? In basic terms a streamer who doesn't show their face but instead uses a virtual avatar to convey their expressions - Visuals often inspired by an anime aesthetic (but not always). It's a real time animated character with an actual person behind it.
I'd argue this has been my most short notice decision to work on a convention and i have absolutely zero regrets about it. I'd do it all over again, ideally with more advanced planning on my end. So what did I capture? Well, here goes:
Friends
Like seriously, you go outside of your own country and who's one of the first people you see? That one guy you meet on nearly every other convention you go to... Awesome to have you man!

Likeminded people on their way to build a whole convention floor
Opposed to me, the lowly photographer, they've got actual work to do before the convention starts. Where I'm mostly going over the program and plotting schedules for myself these guys and gals are working hard to set everything up before visitors arrive

idk man giant smug Panko has a special place in my heart. Feels like she's mocking you anytime you walk past.
Concerts - Like, a lot of concerts. Quality music though so I ain't complaining!

Humans - Yeah right who'd expect those on a convention?
Thanks to all those of you whom I've had the chance to meet and interact with for making this an awesome time. Be that those working or those visiting. Shout out to my fellow Eurowings passengers who had to spend a glorious 10 extra hours waiting for their second flight to Birmingham due to the first one turning around 20 minutes before landing and to the awesome dude in a kilt, I really enjoyed that conversation right on the end of the last day a whole lot!
